What is a PESEL number?
PESEL is the Polish national identification number — 11 digits assigned to every Polish resident, encoding birth date, a serial number, gender and a check digit.
What data is encoded in a PESEL?
Digits 1–6 encode the birth date, digits 7–9 are a serial number, digit 10 encodes gender (even = female, odd = male) and digit 11 is the check digit.
How are dates after 2000 encoded?
For people born 2000–2099 the month is increased by 20 (January = 21, December = 32). The tool automatically decodes dates from all centuries between 1800 and 2299.
