Discount formula
Sale price = original price × (1 − discount ÷ 100). The amount you save is original price × discount ÷ 100. For example, a $250 jacket at 30% off costs $250 × 0.70 = $175, saving you $75.
To reverse the calculation and find the original price from a sale price: original price = sale price ÷ (1 − discount ÷ 100). A $140 item after 30% off originally cost $140 ÷ 0.70 = $200.

Stacked discounts and tax
Retailers often combine offers - for example a 25% seasonal sale plus an extra 10% coupon at checkout. These apply sequentially, not additively: each percentage comes off the already-reduced price. Two stacked discounts of 25% and 10% equal a total of 32.5% off, not 35%.
Sales tax is normally charged on the discounted price, not the original. This calculator lets you toggle tax on the final price so the number you see matches your receipt.

Can I add tax?
Yes. Toggle the tax option to add a tax percentage to the final discounted price.
